About Lucas
From his roots in Texas to chasing his dreams around the world
A Young Boy
Born on September 1st, 1997 in San Antonio, Texas in the United States, Lucas Porter grew up surrounded by horses. His parents, Suzanne and BG Porter both rode in their youth and made sure Lucas and his brother Wilton would be involved with the delicate animals from a young age. Lucas began riding his pony Chessie around their ranch in Texas and receiving lessons from his mother and galloping across the lands with his father.
Early International Success
After working his way through the pony ranks and into the show jumping divisions, Lucas took over the ride on Phineas, a horse produced by his brother Wilton. A few years into their partnership, Lucas and Phineas won the Individual Gold Medal at the North American Junior Championships the same day Wilton and his mount took the Gold in the Young Rider division.
The European Expansion
At the end of 2015, Lucas had the opportunity to take his career to the next level of international sport by training under and working directly with Jeroen Dubbeldam, the Olympic, World, and European champion and legendary horseman. To fully immerse in Dubbeldam’s system, Lucas and his brother decided to begin splitting their time between the Netherlands and the United States.
Aspiring for Long Term Success
After graduating from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of History, Lucas now focuses fully on horses and trying to become the best rider he can be. Some of his long term goals are to win an individual medal at a championship, continue to represent the United States at the highest level, and eventually be in the Top 10 of the world rankings. He is thankful to work with a passionate team around him that works just as hard as he does.
